Semi-permanent makeup can create or redefine the shape of brows, fill in empty/sparse areas, thicken, extend, and create brows for clients who have lost all their brow hair. Those who are unfamiliar with these services usually refer to them as eyebrow tattoos.
Also known as Brow Embroidery or Feather Stroking, is a form of semi-permanent makeup application where hair strokes are manually drawn into the eyebrows. Pigment is implanted into the surface layer of the dermis (skin) and will typically last from 1-3 years. Not recommended for very oily skin types as hair strokes will eventually blend together over time. To learn more, see our guide to microblading!
We currently have a Calgary Microblading offer for all Calgarians!
Hair stokes done with a machine rather than hand tool, to implant the pigment more consistently in the skin, for longer lasting results.
Also known as Airbrushed Brows or Stardust Brows, uses a digital machine to implant pigment into the skin that gives a soft powdery makeup look. Great for oily or aging skin types or those looking for a more solid, defined or consistent look. Typically lasts longer than microblading at 2-5 years.
Similar to powder brows, but in a gradient fashion - darker at the tails to progressively lighter towards the head of the brow.
Also known as 3D/4D Brows or Hybrid Brows - Incorporates both methods of hair strokes and shading to create the most defined look. Technique can be performed by hand or with a digital machine.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
IS IT PAINFUL?
Levels of discomfort vary upon each individual’s pain threshold and sensitivity, but the sensation can be compared to tweezing of the eyebrows or a light scratching. To ensure maximum comfort during the procedure, a topical anesthetic (4-5% Lidocaine) will be applied before and during your treatment. Please note, if you are on your menstrual cycle you may be more sensitive to pain. Sleep, stress and caffeine can also play a factor in pain sensitivity.
HOW LONG DO RESULTS LAST?
Semi permanent pigments will fade over time naturally. Many different factors affect the life of the implanted pigment, such as color choice, lifestyle, sun exposure, skin type, hormones, medications and immediate and long term aftercare. Results can last years, but most clients will require an annual touch-up to refresh color and shape. Oilier skin types tend to fade quicker than drier skin types. Frequent smokers or those with iron deficiency anemia may have results fade sooner. Results vary with each client.
WHAT WILL THE FINAL RESULT LOOK LIKE?
Microblading works best for clients with dry to normal skin types. Hairstrokes on oiler skin types tend to heal softer and more blended. Clients with more natural existing hair will have more of a 3D look, whereas clients with less hair, will have more of a 2 dimensional look. Our goal is to achieve the most natural looking brow that compliments your face, regardless.
WHAT IS THE HEALING PROCESS?
Healing time is approximately 10- 14 days for the top layer of skin. Initially after treatment, brows will be much darker and thicker than what the final result will be; it is important to understand that brows will become 10-15% thinner and 40% lighter. This is the purpose of your touch up or "perfecting" appointment, which can be booked 6-12 weeks after the initial treatment. Between 4-6 weeks, the area will be fully healed and reveal its true shape and colour.
WHO IS NOT A CANDIDATE FOR EYEBROW TATTOOS?
Under the age of 18 years
Pregnant or nursing
Diabetic on the needle (will require doctor’s clearance)
Have an autoimmune disease (will require doctor’s clearance)
On blood thinners
Have infections and/or diseases or are sick (cold/flu)
Have thyroid/graves disease (pigment may not retain properly)
Have major heart problems
Had an organ transplant
Have skin conditions (eczema, psoriasis) or irritations (rashes, sunburn, acne, etc.) in or near the procedure area
Prone to keloid scars or hypertrophic scarring
Had Botox or collagen injections to your face in the past 4 weeks
Had chemical peels or laser treatments to your face in the past 4 weeks
Used Accutane in the past year
Undergoing chemotherapy or radiation (consult with your doctor)
Tanned in a UV bed or had excess sunlight in the last 7 days
Have sensitivities to dyes/pigments or local anesthetics
* Any treatment, medication, or illness that compromises the immune system / healing process would make you NOT a good candidate for micropigmentation procedures.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT DURING THE TREATMENT?
An in depth consultation where expectations are discussed, measurements are taken, colours determined, and a removable drawing of what your brows will look like is performed. The procedure can be performed the same day of the consultation. We allow enough time to complete paperwork, take before/after photos, 20-30 minutes of topical numbing, the procedure, and finally a review of aftercare.
WILL NATURAL BROW HAIRS BE REMOVED?
We incorporate as much of the natural brow hairs as possible. Any strays that lay outside of the brow design will be removed.
HOW DO I PREPARE FOR MY TREATMENT?
It is recommended to plan any vacations a minimum of 14 days after the procedure.
If you have an ideal shape and colour in mind, bring a few reference photos to your appointment. You may fill in your eyebrows as you normally would so we can take into consideration the shape you desire.
Do not consume alcohol, caffeine or blood thinners (Aspirin, Ibuprofen, other NSAID medication, fish oil, Niacin, Vitamin E) 48 hours before your procedure, to avoid excess bleeding, which directly affects color retention.
Stop using skin thinners (vitamin A, glycolic acids, exfoliation) on the brow area 2 weeks prior to your appointment. This includes chemical peels, dermabrasion, mesotherapy or anything that causes faster skin rejuvenation.
Avoid sun/ tanning bed exposure for 30 days BEFORE and AFTER your procedure. If you show up for your appointment with a new tan or a sunburn, you will need to reschedule and will forfeit your deposit. As your skin exfoliates from a sunburn, it will take the tattoo pigment with it.
Some cosmetic procedures should be completed prior to your brow tattoo:
- Brow waxing/shaping (48 hours in advance)
- Brow tinting (1 week in advance)
- Botox/fillers (4 weeks in advance)
- Facials (48 hours in advance)
WHAT SHOULD I DO AFTER THE PROCEDURE?
Aftercare involves not touching your brows (picking, scratching, pulling) while they are healing and potentially scabbing/flaking the first 7-10 days. Avoidance of excessive sun exposure, water, perspiration (working out), skin care products, makeup and exfoliation to the area is important so pigment and healing are not disturbed. Detailed aftercare instructions will be given on the day of the appointment, as well as an aftercare kit with specific healing ointment to maintain the health and longevity of your new brows.
WHAT PIGMENTS DO YOU USE?
We use iron oxide pigments deemed safe for the skin. Li Pigments are stable, high performance pigments that undergo rigorous testing for carcinogenic compounds, unsafe dyes/colorants, heavy metals and microbiological sterility. We do not use pigments made in China.
