FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
IS IT PAINFUL?
Levels of discomfort vary upon each individual’s pain threshold and sensitivity. To ensure maximum comfort during the procedure, a topical anesthetic (4-5% Lidocaine and 2% Tetracaine) will be applied before and during your treatment. Please note, if you are on your menstrual cycle you may be more sensitive to pain. Sleep, stress and caffeine can also play a factor in pain sensitivity.
HOW LONG DO RESULTS LAST?
Semi permanent pigments will fade over time naturally. Many different factors affect the life of the implanted pigment, such as sun exposure, skin type, general health and immediate and long term aftercare. Results can last years, but most clients will require a touch-up every 1-2 years to refresh color and shape. Frequent smokers or those with iron deficiency anemia may have results fade sooner. Results vary with each client.
WHAT WILL THE FINAL RESULT LOOK LIKE?
Bold or soft, depending on the look you are trying to achieve. Pigment will be darker, larger and crisper immediately after the procedure, but will soften and shrink slightly over the weeks that it heals. Most often we do a black or black brown pigment. Requests for special colors may be considered; please inquire

Other Considerations:
-
Very hooded eyelids may limit the extent to which the eyeliner can be done
-
Have lash extensions - must remove 1 week before tattooing (so not to damage the hair follicle)
-
Use Latisse or lash serum - must stop serums 4 weeks before tattooing
WHAT CAN I EXPECT DURING THE TREATMENT?
An in depth consultation where expectations and desires are discussed and a removable outline is drawn before the procedure. The procedure is generally performed the same day of the consultation, so long as there are no contraindications. We allow enough time to complete paperwork, take before/after photos, 20-30 minutes of topical numbing, the procedure and a review of aftercare.
Additionally, your eyes will be closed during the procedure, so no worries about damage to your eyes themselves or seeing the device/needle :)
HOW DO I PREPARE FOR MY TREATMENT?
-
Remove contact lens and wear glasses to the procedure.
-
Remove all eye makeup. If you have an ideal eyeliner design in mind, bring a few reference photos to your appointment.
-
Do not consume alcohol, caffeine or blood thinners (Aspirin, Ibuprofen, other NSAID medication, fish oil, Niacin, Vitamin E) 48 hours before your procedure, to avoid excess bleeding, which directly affects color retention.
-
Avoid sun/ tanning bed exposure for 30 days BEFORE and AFTER your procedure. As your skin exfoliates from a sunburn, it will take the tattoo pigment with it. If you show up for your appointment with a new tan or a sunburn, you will need to reschedule and will forfeit your deposit.
-
It is recommended to plan any vacations a minimum of 14 days after the procedure.
-
Vaccines/Immunizations - please ensure your cosmetic tattoo appointment is scheduled a minimum of 14 days either BEFORE or AFTER to avoid any potential immune reactions.
-
Some cosmetic procedures should be completed prior to your eyeliner tattoo:
- Lash extensions (must be removed 1 week before tattooing)
- Latisse or lash serum (must stop serums 4 weeks before tattooing)
- Lash tinting (1 week in advance)
- Botox (2 weeks in advance)
WHAT SHOULD I DO AFTER THE PROCEDURE?
Aftercare involves not touching your eyes (picking, scratching, pulling) while they are healing and potentially scabbing/flaking the first 7-10 days. Avoidance of excessive sun exposure, water, perspiration (working out), skin care products, makeup and exfoliation to the area is important so pigment and healing are not disturbed. Detailed aftercare instructions will be given on the day of the appointment, as well as an aftercare kit with specific healing ointment to maintain the health and longevity of your new eyeliner.
WHAT PIGMENTS & TOOLS DO YOU USE?
We use iron oxide and carbon based pigments deemed safe for the skin that are specifically formulated for permanent makeup procedures. Lasting Impressions and Permablend are stable, high performance pigments that undergo rigorous testing for carcinogenic compounds, unsafe dyes/colorants, heavy metals and microbiological sterility. We do not use pigments made in China. We only use sterile, single use needles that are opened in front of you. We are Alberta Health Services inspected.
